Greeting Song: “The Name Game” #1
ELA Focus Skills: Name Recognition, Phonological Awareness (Rhythm, Rhyme, and Repetition)
Tell children you are going to teach them a silly name chant. Demonstrate by singing a verse of “The Name Game” using your own name. Have children repeat the verse after you.
Then hold up children’s name card as you sing a verse using their name. Tell children you want them to join you as you recite a verse for each child.
The Name Game
Holly, Holly, bo-bolly
Banana-fana fo-folly
Fee-fi-mo-molly

Follow this pattern to create a verse for each child:
<Name>, <Name>, bo-b <name without first consonant sound>
Banana-fana fo-f <name without first consonant sound>
Fee-fi-mo-m <name without first consonant sound>

Social Emotional Tip: Recognizing their name in print helps children attain a greater sense of self-identity.
