Hold up the book Jazz Baby. Tell children that you are going to recite a poem called “Jazz Baby, Jazz Baby.” Say, The first time I will recite it alone and act out the action words. The second time, I want you all to join me in saying and acting out the words.
The third time, have children join you in reciting at different speeds, pitches, and volumes. Challenge children to choose whether they would like to recite the poem in a loud or soft voice, in a high or low voice, or at a fast or slow pace.
