Skill Focus: Creative Expression

Show the family dancing in Kitchen Dance. Tell children many people take lessons to learn different dances. Ask, Has anyone taken dance lessons before? If so, encourage them to share their experiences. Encourage children to experiment with different kinds of dance movement by playing different pieces of music. Say, How does this music make you feel? How does it make you want to dance? Play a variety of dance music and encourage children to dance alone, with a partner, or in small groups.

English Language Learners: Invite children to share any dances or songs from their home culture. Have children explain the dance as other children act as audience.
