ELA Focus Skills: Speaking and Listening

Remind children that today is Music Day. Discuss with children how they would like to contribute to Music Day. Say, Today is Music Day! We are all going to make music together. What instruments are you going to use to make music today? Are you going to use an instrument or your voice to make music?  Review with children the instruments they’d like to play, what sounds they will make (loud, soft, high, low), and how they will make sounds on the instruments (tap, scrape, etc.)

Some children may prefer to contribute by dancing with scarves or singing. Encourage children to contribute how they wish. Practice with children how they are going to move and sing. Ask, How are you going to move with your scarf? What sounds will you make with your voice as you sing?

Tell children that at the end of the performance, the musicians take a bow. Practice taking a bow with children.
