Sing Together: “Farmer Wore a Blue Hat”
STEM Key Concepts: There are many different colors; A color can have many different shades (from very light to very dark)
ELA Focus Skills: Color Recognition, Vocabulary, Active Listening, Follow Directions
Teach children a song about a farmer and his hat. Ask children to share what they know about farmers.
Tell children they are going to sing the song "Farmer Wore a Blue Hat" in two parts. Divide children into two groups.
- Point to one group and say, This group is the light blue hat group. Have them repeat their group color a few times. Then repeat with the second group as the dark blue hat group.
- Sing the song once and point to each group as you sing their part. Tell children they are to sing with you when you point to their group. Say, Are we ready?
- Sing through two times. Then have groups sing together. Help children remember what group they are in, say, Light blue group put your hand up. Dark blue group clap your hands. Tell children you want to hear the light blue and the dark blue groups singing together.
