Greeting Song: “Will You Meet a Friend of Mine?” #3
ELA Focus Skills: Follow Directions, Phonological Awareness
Have children sit in a circle. Tell children you will sing the song “Will You Meet a Friend of Mine?” again. Say, After I sing the last line and name a child, I want you to repeat the last line with me and clap once for each word we sing.
- Model the procedure. Sing the song and insert a child’s name in the last sentence. Then sing the last sentence a second time and clap once for each word: This (clap) is (clap) my (clap) friend (clap) Anna (clap) Maria. (clap)
- Ask children to repeat the last line with you as you sing to each child. Repeat until all children have had a chance to hear their name.
Will You Meet a Friend of Mine?

Will you meet a friend of mine?
Friend of mine?
Friend of mine?
Will you meet a friend of mine?
This is my friend <child’s name>. (children clap with each word)
