Before playing the Between the Lions “Words Beginning with 'h'" video, ask children to say the word hill.
- Review with children, The word hill begins with the /h/ sound. Repeat the word, emphasizing the beginning /h/ sound. Ask children to name other words that begin with /h/ sound.
- Then tell children they are going to watch a short video about words that begin with the letter sound /h/.
After watching the video clip ask children to name a word from the clip that begins with the /h/ sound.
- Play the video again and have children repeat the /h/ words hat, hay, horse, and hog.
Educator Tip: Guided and independent letter, sound, and word practice continues to take place in center activities. It is helpful to set up the literacy center immediately after the direct instruction and repeat instruction before children work in the literacy center identifying letters.
