ELA Focus Skills: Active Listening, Follow Directions, Phonological Awareness
- Sing the first verse of “If Your Name . . . .”
- Signal children whose names have one syllable to stand up.
- Say the name of each child as you and the child clap out the syllable. Then have the child sit back down.
- Repeat with children with names with multiple syllables. Say the name of each child as you and the child clap to the syllables.
Once everyone has had a turn clapping their name, go around the circle and as a group clap the syllables to every child's name.
