Skill Focus: Gross Motor Skills, Vocabulary

Have children set up an obstacle course and construct a game in which players need to find a way to pass the obstacles to get through the course.

What you use will depend on the space of your room. Help children decide what to include in their obstacle course and the challenges they want to set for players. For example,

  • Set up two rows of chairs for children to go between. Place an obstacle, such as an upright block, in the path so children have to go around it.
  • Drape a sheet or blanket over tables to make a tunnel.
  • Create a line of hoops so children have to jump from hoop to hoop.
  • Set up a balance beam.
  • Create a slalom of blocks.
