Set up two boxes: one labeled “Heavy” and one labeled “Light.” Have the materials children have been using during their explorations, such as balls, erasers, cubes, and tubes, on display for children. Help them sort the objects by weight. Review the terms heavy and light, and help children identify which box they should put the object into. Guide children to work in pairs to compare and discuss their observations and decide which box to place the object into.
