  • In the first verse, the first little pig builds a house out of straw.
  • Then ask children to complete the following sentences:
In the second verse, the second little pig builds a house out of _________.
In the third verse, the third little pig builds a house out of _________.
  • Sing the first verse of the song. At the end, sing the chorus. Repeat with children.
  • Sing the second and third verses with children, adding the chorus after each verse.
  • Encourage children to sing and act out the song with friends in the Pretend and Play Center.

I’ve Been Working on My Straw House
(sung to the tune of “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad”)
I’ve been working on my straw house
All the live-long day.
I’ve been working on my straw house
Just to keep the wolf away.
Can’t you hear the bad wolf coming,
Huffing and puffing up the hill?
Can’t you hear the bad wolf coming?
Just wait . . . soon you will!

Chorus
Wolf is gonna huff.
Wolf is gonna huff.
Wolf is gonna huff and puff.
Wolf is gonna huff.
Wolf is gonna huff.
Wolf is gonna huff and puff.

Verse 2: I’ve been working on my stick house …
Verse 3: I’ve been working on my brick house …

Adaptation: With very young children, sing the song one line at a time, with one child at a time.
