Letter Molds (“Bb”)
Skill Focus: Fine Motor Skills, Letter Recognition, Vocabulary
Display the letter “Bb” card. Trace over both the lowercase “b” and the uppercase “B” to show children how the letters are shaped. Show children how to use the molds to shape the letters. Then have children press uppercase and lowercase “Bb” molds into the sand.
As children work, talk about the features of the uppercase and lowercase letters. Ask, Are the uppercase and lowercase “Bb” shaped in the same way? How are they different? Encourage children to make the letters with their fingers in the sand. Once children are adept at shaping the letter “Bb,” you may want the review other letters with them by having them shape them in the sand.
