Before your baby can begin to understand what a word means, he needs to hear it many times. Don’t worry about repeating yourself when talking to your baby. He loves hearing your voice!

As your baby begins to find his own voice to communicate, help empower him by giving meaning to the sounds he makes. Help him turn his “da” sound into “da-da” and encourage him to use this as his word for his dad. “Ba” could be his “ba-ba”—a bottle, blanket, or a sibling’s name.

As your baby grows, he’ll be eager to have words for everything. So talk with him at bedtime, bathtime, mealtime, on the road, in the grocery line—or anywhere and anytime!
