Since he was a baby, you’ve probably been asking your child: Where’s your nose? and then touching it lightly or guiding his hand to his face and exclaiming: There it is! Let your toddler see what you’re talking about. At around 15 months of age, he should recognize his own reflection in the mirror.

  • Sit or stand in front of a mirror together and ask him to find his nose, eyes, ears, and mouth. When he points to a body part, ask him to tell you what it is: Can you say nose? Nose.
  • Look in the mirror together as you talk about your faces and get him to focus on how his mouth moves when he talks.
  • Make silly faces and ask your toddler to copy yours. Then copy the silly faces that he makes.
