Unit Learning Goals
STEM
Children will:
- Listen to, describe, and compare sounds
- Begin to understand that an action has to happen to make a sound, and that a sound becomes louder when the force of that action is increased, or quieter when the force is decreased
- Begin to recognize that different objects make different sounds
- Begin to understand that a sound has a source and can be tracked to its source
- Investigate sounds indoors and outdoors and make predictions about the sources of different sounds
- Begin to recognize that sounds have different volumes (loud and quiet)
- Compare and contrast sounds in different ways (loud/quiet; indoor/outdoor)
- Begin to recognize that they use their senses to investigate sound
- Discuss how sounds are made (cause and effect)
- Explore how to tap and scrape to make sounds using different materials
- Predict what sound different materials will produce
- Reproduce sounds after hearing them
