STEM

Children will:

  • Learn about exploring and observing things in their environment
  • Begin to understand that scientists are explorers who ask questions about the world, make observations, and explore to collect data to find answers
  • Sort and categorize objects
  • Describe similarities and differences between items
  • Share ideas and record data and observations on charts

ELA

Children will:

  • Be introduced to the alphabet and upper and lowercase letters (Alphabet Knowledge)
  • Begin to identify the front and back cover of a book and how to turn pages one at a time (Concepts of Print)
  • Begin to understand the role of an author and an illustrator (Concepts of Print)
  • Listen to stories read aloud (Listening and Speaking)
  • Begin to engage in active viewing and listening (Listening and Speaking)
  • Begin to make connections between their life and stories (Comprehension)
  • Listen to, develop and understanding of meaning, and use new concept vocabulary words about the unit concepts including alphabet, explore, family, friends, and library (Vocabulary)

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL

Children will:

  • Participate in multi-exchange discussions and conversations
  • Begin to express their needs, wants, feelings, thoughts, ideas, and opinions
  • Begin to understand group roles, rules, and expectations
  • Describe members of their family and roles of members of their family
  • Recognize family similarities and differences and begin to develop an appreciation for different types of families
  • Begin to understand the qualities of friendship
  • Recognized emotions such as happiness, fear, and sadness
