Unit Learning Goals
STEM
Children will:
- Understand that there are many different colors
- Learn that two or more colors can be combined to make a new color
- Understand that a single color can have different shades from very light to very dark
- Learn that mixing white paint with a color of paint makes a lighter shade of the same color; mixing black paint to a color makes a darker shade of the same color
- Classify and sort objects by color; compare and contrast colors
- Begin to understand that objects appear to be a different color when viewed through a colored transparent material
- Begin to understand that the color of light appears differently after passing through a transparent colored material
- Make predictions about changes in color and confirm predictions
- Share ideas and record observations
ELA
Children will:
- Recognize, match, and form uppercase and lowercase “Cc,” “Yy,” “Pp,” “Rr” (Alphabet Knowledge)
- Identify the front and back covers of a book and turn pages one at a time (Concepts of Print)
- Understand the roles of author and illustrator (Concepts of Print)
- Begin to recognize and identify environmental print (Concepts of Print)
