ELA Educator Preparation

During the next four weeks children will explore color through hands-on exploration, stories, poems, songs, and games.

Setting Up the Room

Color Wall Display Decorate your room with a rainbow of colors! Create wall displays featuring different colors, such as a collection of pictures of red foods (strawberries, apples, cherries) and green foods (lettuce, peas, broccoli). As the week progresses, fill the walls with children’s artwork, color poems, and color charts. Encourage children to use color words to describe the objects they see on the walls and around the room.

Book-Browsing Boxes Create book-browsing boxes with fiction and nonfiction books about color. Label the boxes with words and a matching picture or symbol. Place them in the Library Center and other centers.
