Week 2: Meet the Alphabet/At The Library

Learning Goals

STEM

Children will:

  • Continue to learn about exploring and observing things in their environment 
  • Understand that scientists are explorers who ask questions about the world, make observations, and collect data to find answers 
  • Compare and contrast to categorize objects they observe during outdoor and indoor explorations
  • Learn to share and record data and observations on charts 

ELA

Children will:

  • Be introduced to the alphabet  (Alphabet Knowledge)
  • Begin to understand the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters (Alphabet Knowledge)
  • Continue to identify parts of a book 
  • Begin to understand the role of author and illustrator (Print Concepts)
  • Begin to make connections between their life and stories (Comprehension)
  • Begin to answer questions about read-aloud stories (Comprehension)
  • Continue to engage in active listening and viewing (Listening and Speaking)
  • Listen for rhyme and alliteration in texts read-aloud (Phonological Awareness)
  • Listen to, develop and understanding of meaning, and use new concept vocabulary words about the unit concepts including, alphabet, communicate, information, library, observe, and explore (Vocabulary)

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL

Children will:

  • Begin to participate in multi-exchange discussions and conversations
  • Begin to express their needs, wants, feelings, and thoughts, ideas, and opinions
  • Begin to understand group roles, rules, and expectations
  • Continue to understand the qualities of friendship
  • Continue to recognize emotions
  • Begin to understand they are an important part of their school community
