Week 1: Sprouting Seeds and Bulbs

Learning Goals

STEM

Children will begin to:

  • Make observations of trees and other plants outdoors and indoors and collect and record data about them over time
  • Understand that there are many different types of plants and seeds, and that some plants grow from seed, some grow from bulbs, and some (e.g., carrot tops; potato eyes) may grow in other ways
  • Understand that plants have needs that must be met in order for them to survive, and these needs include water and light so they can grow
  • Understand that plants have characteristic parts that help them survive, including roots, stems, and leaves
  • Understand that plants grow in places/environments where they can get their needs met––including needs for water, light, and the right type of soil if applicable
  • Record, share, and discuss their observations
