Week 4: Puddles and Water Drops

Getting Started

In this final week of the unit, children explore evaporation, absorption, and how water forms drops as it drips. Children will:

  • Make “water paintings” on different surfaces outdoors and observe what happens as their paintings dry
  • Use eyedroppers to make water drops on different surfaces
  • Move water drops with toothpicks and other tools to explore separating and combining drops
  • Be introduced to evaporation as they listen to the read-aloud book Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash by Sarah Weeks and watch the Between the Lions show about the story
  • Listen to the read-aloud book Ten Dirty Pigs/Ten Clean Pigs by Carol Roth to enjoy a story about how water makes us clean
  • Review the letter “Uu,” the letter sound short /u/, and be introduced to the word up
