Getting Started
During the first week of the program, children will be introduced to the preschool environment, to each other, and to the ideas of exploring and observing their world. Children will:
- Become familiar with the preschool environment and routines
- Have opportunities to explore their indoor and outdoor environments
- Develop social and emotional abilities as they:
- begin to learn what it is to be a friend and what qualities make a person a good friend
- compare family differences and similarities while building an “Our Families” display of pictures
- Listen to the read-aloud books Owl Babies by Martin Waddell, a story about a family of owls, and Knuffle Bunny Too by Mo Willems, a story about a girl’s first day of preschool
- Connect with a young lion character (Leona) in the video Between the Lions “But, Mama, But…” and relate to her feelings as she separates from her mama
- Watch three characters (Peep, Chirp, and Quack) become friends and begin to explore their world together in the show PEEP and the Big Wide World “That’s a Cat”
