Getting Started
This week children continue to explore how water moves and how they can change the direction of the flow of water. Children will:
- Continue making rivers by digging paths for water to flow
- Begin to plan and construct larger, more complex waterways
- Learn about dams and build one themselves
- Continue using water exploration tools to move water
- Listen to the read-aloud book Row, Row, Row Your Boat, a story about a bear family that floats down a river on a boat, which reinforces the concept of flowing water
- Listen to the read-aloud book Toy Boat, a story about a little lost boat that meets bigger barges, ferries, and other craft before finding its way home, which exposes children to the idea of ocean water
- Return to the Between the Lions show “River Story,” to learn that every river has an end: they flow into the ocean
- Review the letters “Rr” and “Dd,” the beginning sounds /r/ and /d/, and learn the words river and dam
