Letter Shaping (“Ww”)
Model how to use the materials to shape the letter “Ww.” Have children form their own letter “Ww.”
Fish for Letters (worms)
Identify the letters in worm. Fish for the letters in the word worm and arrange the letters to match the word on the word card.
Worm Habitat
Create a mural of a worm habitat. Have children draw or paste pictures of grass, flowers, etc. above ground and roots, tunnels, and worms below ground.
Inside-Out Window Garden
Have children use various materials to create a garden on the sticky-side of contact paper to be hung from a window.
Worm Tunnels
Have children use blocks to build tunnels. Children can move clay or plastic worms through the tunnels.
Independent and Partner Reading, Unit 7, Week 4
Encourage children to select books that interest them and to look at the words and pictures on their own or with other children.
One-on-One Reading: Vegetable Garden #4
Read aloud Vegetable Garden to individuals or small groups. Discuss how the garden changes in the different seasons.
Worm Village
Have children create a worm puppet theater. Make worm puppets out of socks.
Letter Molds (“Ww”)
Have children press uppercase and lowercase “Ww” molds into the sand. Encourage them to make the letters with their fingers in the sand.
Plants are Different
Have each child draw a flower. Then have children measure the flowers and place them in order from shortest to tallest.

Invite children to play PEEP and the Big Wide World “Flower Power” game.
Make a Garden Book
Have children draw, dictate, or write their own books about vegetable gardens.
