Show children how to use the materials to shape the letter “Uu.”

Use the Letter Sort Routine to help children distinguish letter shapes and recognize the shape of the target letter, “Uu.”
Fun in the Tub
Have children draw a favorite scene from Ten Dirty Pigs/Ten Clean Pigs and include water drops to indicate things that are wet in their drawing.
Colored Water Drop Design
Have children create water drop designs by letting colored water drops flow down a ramp.
At the Carwash
Have children build a carwash out of blocks and to drive the toy cars and truck through for a good washing.
Independent and Partner Reading, Unit 9, Week 4
Encourage children to select books about water that they have not “read” before and to look at the words and pictures on their own or with other children.
One-on-One Reading: Ten Dirty Pigs/Ten Clean Pigs
Read aloud Ten Dirty Pigs/Ten Clean Pigs to individuals or small groups. Count the pigs on each page with children.
Mrs. McNosh Role Play
Invite children to act out the story Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash with silly items children can pretend to wash and hang up to dry.
Different Material—Different Drying Time
Children choose items of different materials and determine which absorbs more water and which dries faster.
Wet and Dry Clothes
Children wash doll clothes—some hang wet clothes on the clothesline and others place their doll clothes in plastic bags. Revisit the cloths to see which cloths are still wet and which ones are dry.
Wet and Dry Sand
Make sandcastles with dry sand and wet sand to demonstrate how water sticks to pieces of sand.
“Fish Swish” #2 (PEEP game)
Play the PEEP and the Big Wide World interactive game “Fish Swish” to help Quack figure out how many balloons he needs for his fish friends.
Hang It Up To Dry
Have children draw an item that will absorb water and will dry when the water evaporates. Have them dictate or write a description below the picture.
