Letter Rubbing (“Gg”)
Have children trace over the uppercase “G” and the lowercase “g.” Then model how to do a rubbing of each letter.
Letter Sort (“Gg”)
Use the Letter Sort Routine to help children distinguish letter shapes and recognize the shape of the target letter, “Gg.”
Tissue Paper Flower Garden
Help children make their own tissue paper flowers to add to the classroom garden.
Hand Print Plants
Make a plant mural for the classroom. Have children use their handprints as the plant prints and add plant parts with a paintbrush.
Build a Garden
Have children build a block garden using craft foam as the dirt, blocks for a wall, and plastic flowers.
Independent and Partner Reading, Unit 7, Week 2
Encourage children to select books that interest them and to look at the words and pictures on their own or with other children.
One-on-One Reading: Jack’s Garden #2
Read aloud Jack’s Garden to individuals or small groups. Have children compare the plants in the story.
Flower Shop
Help children create a flower or garden shop. Model the roles of a florist and a customer.
Plant Graph
Revisit children’s plant graphs and have them measure their plants again and record the measurements on the graph.
Under the Soil Dig
Have children dig for plant parts in the bean “soil” and direct them to sort the plant parts into different groups.
“Round and Round” (PEEP game)
Invite children to play PEEP and the Big Wide World “Round and Round” game.
Make a Seed Packet
Have children make a seed packet of their favorite plant. Have them draw the plant and dictate or write the name of the seed.
