Week 1: Shades of Color

Learning Goals

STEM

Children will:

  • Begin to understand that there are many different colors
  • Begin to understand that every color has many different shades from very light to very dark
  • Compare and contrast shades of color
  • Begin to understand that diluting colored water with clear water creates a lighter shade of the same color
  • Begin to understand cause and effect through experimenting with color

ELA

Children will:

  • Recognize, match, and form uppercase and lowercase “Cc” (Alphabet Knowledge)
  • Begin to ask and answer questions about a read-aloud story (Comprehension)
  • Learn to make connections between their lives and stories (Comprehension)
  • Begin to understand the roles of author and illustrator (Concepts of Print)
  • Listen to stories read aloud (Listening and Speaking)
  • Engage in active listening and viewing (Listening and Speaking)
  • Listen to, develop an understanding of meaning, and use new concept vocabulary words including color, dark, light, and shade.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL

Children will:

  • Listen to and learn to follow directions
  • Begin to build their concept of self as they say their names and recognize them in print
  • Recognize that being part of a community is being able to work together and take turns
  • Begin to understand how to share and discuss their work as they build confidence in their own abilities
  • Learn to take pride in their work and appreciation for the ability of others
