Week 3: Mixing New Colors

Getting Started

In the third week of the Color unit, children will continue to explore different colors and mixing colors to make new colors. They understand that two colors can be combined to create a new color and that when you look an object through a transparent colored material, the object can appear to be a different color. During this week children will:

  • Continue to explore mixing different shades of a color
  • Explore how color changes when viewed through colored transparent materials
  • Talk about how animals can blend into their environment as they read Mouse Paint by Tana Hoban
  • Watch Peep and his friends explore mixing colors as they dip into different jars of paint color in Peep and the Big Wide World "A Peep of a Different Color."
  • Continue to recognized and clap out syllables in words and names
  • Begin to gain an understanding of their ability to recognize and express their own thoughts, ideas, and opinions
  • Be introduced to the letter “Pp” and the word paint
