Have children use various materials to form the letter “Pp.”

Have children search piles of word cards made from flyers, magazines, and book covers to find those with the letter “Pp.”

Have children dip sponges in paint and press them onto paper to create sponge paintings.

“Mouse Paint” Puppets

Have children create mouse puppets and other props from the story Mouse Paint.

Build a Letter (“Pp”)

Invite children to build the letter “Pp” with blocks.

Independent and Partner Reading, Unit 2, Week 3

Have children select a book of interest and read the words and pictures on their own or with a buddy.

One-on-One Reading: Mouse Paint #3

Read Mouse Paint and invite children to identify objects and their colors in the story.

Puppet Play, Unit 2, Week 3

Have children act out the story of Mouse Paint as you introduce concepts such as character and dialogue.

Color Mixing

Have children continue to explore making new colors with colored plastic wrap and finger paints.

Animal Colors

Have children sort pictures of animals by their colors and talk about how some animals blend into their environment.

Letter Molds (“Pp”)

Have children press uppercase and lowercase “Pp” molds into the sand.

“Paint Splat” #2 (PEEP game)

Invite children to play an interactive game as they mix two colors of paint to make a new color.

Make a Book about Mixing Colors

Invite children to make up stories about people or make-believe animals mixing paint.
