Week 2: More Shades of Color

Learning Goals

STEM

Children will:

  • Understand there are many different colors
  • Understand that a color has many different shades from very light to very dark
  • Begin to understand that objects can be classified by color
  • Begin to understand that mixing white paint with a color makes a lighter shade of the same color 
  • Begin to understand that mixing black paint with a color makes a darker shade of the same color
  • Recognize and begin to describe cause and effect through investigations of color 

ELA

Children will:

  • Recognize, match, and form uppercase and lowercase “Yy” (Alphabet Knowledge)
  • Make connections between their lives and texts read aloud (Comprehension)
  • Identify front and back covers of a book (Concepts of Print)
  • Understand the roles of author and illustrator (Concepts of Print)
  • Recognize and identify environmental print (Concepts of Print)
  • Listen to and clap syllables in names (Phonological Awareness)
  • Continue to use new concept vocabulary words to describe shades of color, such as color, dark, darker, darkest, mix, light, lighter, lightest, paint, and shade (Vocabulary)

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL

Children will:

  • Continue to listen to and follow directions
  • Continue to build their concept of self as they say their names and recognize their names in print
  • Begin to identify other children by name
  • Begin to share and discuss their ideas as they build confidence in their own abilities
  • Continue to learn basic conversational rules such as taking turns, staying on topic, and actively listening
  • Continue to take pride in their work and appreciate the ability of others
  • Begin to express appreciation for the abilities of others
