Fish for Letters (water)

Name the letters in the word water. Have children fish for the letters and arrange them to spell water.

We Use Water

Have children make a drawing showing how water flows.

Moving Watercolors Painting

Have children make watercolor paintings and blow on the picture with a straw to see the paint move.

Build a Letter (“Ww”)

Invite children to make the uppercase and lowercase “Ww” with blocks.

Independent and Partner Reading, Unit 9, Week 1

Encourage children to select books that interest them and to look at the words and pictures on their own or with other children.

One-on-One Reading: A Cool Drink of Water

Read aloud A Cool Drink of Water to individuals or small groups. Have children point out how people are using water.

River Dance

Invite children to imagine they are the water in a river. Have children dance to the music, using scarves or paper ribbons to represent flowing water.

Guess and Count

Have children estimate how many cups of water will fit into different size containers.

Flowing Water

Encourage children to explore filling and pouring water into and out of containers.

Play the Peep and the Big Wide World video “Making Rivers.” Help children gain an understanding of how the girl made a waterfall and a river.

We All Use Water

Have children draw pictures showing their favorite ways of using water. Help them dictate or write short descriptions about their drawings.
