Learning Goals

STEM

Children will:

  • Understand that every sound has a source
  • Begin to listen to, describe, and compare sounds
  • Develop listening skills by listening to sounds indoors and outdoors
  • Begin to understand how to identify the source of a sound
  • Continue to develop skills of observing and sharing and recording observations

ELA

Children will:

  • Recognize, match, and form uppercase and lowercase “Ss” (Alphabet Knowledge)
  • Identify the first letter in the context of a word (Alphabet Knowledge)
  • Practice book care and handling (Concepts of Print)
  • Understand that print carries meaning (Concepts of Print)
  • Continue to understand directionality in print (Concepts of Print)
  • Practice following directions (Listening and Speaking)
  • Build understanding through text-to-self and text-to-world connections (Comprehension)
  • Listen to, develop understanding of meaning, and use new concept vocabulary about sound: city, country, high, listen, loud, louder, low, quiet, soft, softer, sound, volume (Vocabulary)

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL

Children will:

  • Practice self-regulation as they learn how to be quiet in order to listen to sounds
  • Develop self-concept by identifying sounds they hear in their own lives
  • Develop self-concept by identifying and discussing their favorite sounds
