Learning Centers

Letter Shaping (“Rr”)

Have children use various materials to form the uppercase and lowercase letter “Rr.” 

Name Game

Give children boxes of uppercase and lowercase letters and ask them to match the letters to their names.

Color Art

Have children make a collage of colored transparent materials and observe how light shines through the colors.

Marble Painting

Have children roll marbles that are covered in paint inside a covered box to create a painting and observe how colors mix.

Road Signs

Have children build roads using blocks and display toy street signs to talk about how colors can communicate messages.

Independent and Partner Reading, Unit 2, Week 4

Have children select a book of interest and read the words and pictures on their own or with a buddy.

One-on-One Reading: Red Is a Dragon #2

Read Red is a Dragon and invite children to identify objects and their colors as they are mentioned in the story.

Role Play “It’s Red! It’s Green!”

Invite children to act out the African folktale featured in the video Between the Lions “It’s Red! It’s Green!”

Color Break-Up

Help children break up colors using a simple form of chromatography to show what colors were combined to make another color.

Letter Molds (“Rr”)

Have children press uppercase and lowercase “Rr” molds into sand.

“Paint Splat" #3 (PEEP game)

Invite children to play the interactive online game PEEP and the Big Wide World  “Paint Splat,” to reinforce their knowledge of color mixing.

Make Another Color Card

Revisit the Color Card activity from Week 1 and help children make another Color Card.
