Children (3 - 5 years)

Help your child discover what is the same and what is different about the structures that people live and work in.

As you walk around your neighborhood with your child:

  • Talk about how structures are the same or different.
  • Notice different shapes in features such as windows and doors.
  • Notice different machines and materials used in buildings.
  • Notice different tools used for building structures.

Together learn about basic building concepts and how different houses and structures are built. Then plan and build your own structures.

For media resources about building structures, visit the Children's section on the site and click on "Unit 6: Building Houses and Homes".
