Babies (0 - 15 months)

Math for babies? Yes! Math is another way to help you describe the world to your baby. Your baby is noticing all kinds of things: that some of her toys make noise and some of them don’t, or that she will get something to eat when she’s in her high chair. Encourage your baby to explore, play, and observe to develop her natural math abilities.

Math begins with understanding relationships. So when you clap hands in a pattern, sort through toys and objects, or count baby’s fingers and toes, math happens! Your baby needs lots of different experiences to interact with and build connections to her surroundings.

Looking for a sure sign of your baby’s understanding of math? She shows you every time she asks for “more!”
