Letter Shaping (“Vv”)

Model how to use the materials to shape the letter “Vv.” Have children form their own letter “Vv.”

Letter Sort “Vv”

Use the Letter Sort Routine to help children distinguish letter shapes and recognize the shape of the target letter, “Vv.”

Leaf Printing

Model how to paint and press leaves. Have children describe the leaves as they make their paintings.

Chicks and Salsa

Have children draw a picture of their favorite scene from Chicks and Salsa.

Grocery Store #2

Have children use blocks to build a grocery store with canned goods and play food.

Independent and Partner Reading, Unit 8, Week 2

Encourage children to select books that interest them and to look at the words and pictures on their own or with other children.

One-on-One Reading: The Ugly Vegetables

Read aloud The Ugly Vegetable to individuals or small groups. Compare the gardens in the story’s neighborhood.

Let’s Make Soup

Talk about the soup in The Ugly Vegetable. Have children create a make believe vegetable soup, set a table, and invite friends to taste their “soup.”

Count the Veggies

Have children write a shopping list. Have them count the number of objects they “buy” at the grocery store in the Block Center.

Letter Molds (“Vv”)

Have children press uppercase and lowercase “Vv” molds into the sand. Encourage them to make the letters with their fingers in the sand.

Listening and Watching

Watch the Between the Lions video “Opposite Bunny: yummy/yucky.” Discuss opposites with children.

My Favorite Veggies

Have children draw, dictate, or write their own books about their favorite vegetables.
